A Blow on Education

The issue rises through the Medias and conferences made. The title reflects over the power point presentation quoting “Quality of Education.” All the members of ministry dooms their head down and do the staffs of all education sectors get the sensation of the burning flames projected over the power point. After a day or two, a note flows down the table of a ministry to the heads over the numerous schools in the nation and warns about the standard of education in the country. The application subject underlined with a red marker states ‘Quality of education should be maintained effectively.’ A principal then would be so frustrated looking at the note and the final blow of the sensation fall over the promoters of education, ‘The Teachers.’ And that is how and then come to the end as teacher faces to be victims of all results. It is the teachers who failed in promoting the quality of education as it is the teacher who teaches the learners is what the notion has taken place. The ministries have done their job in implementing curriculum and strategies in the education and various programmes. The principle at the same time would have regulated the school in functioning it effectively. And the last option falls on teachers who would say, “We are sorry. We did teach them but failed to achieve what was encoded.” The case then gets resolved but blame remains over teachers.
Now the question is, ‘Is the teacher only person responsible for promoting it?’ These are the situation that a country of ours faces in making the education system sustainable. It would be immense journey for a surveyor to go and survey the land for a week but the track differs for the teachers who would walk a day of three and four to reach the schools but no one feels the surprise of distance. I here do not mention of salary of teachers which people use it as icon and defame the teachers saying they are always demanding travel allowance and so many things. Its right for teachers to at least get paid for the service but the blame that has been put onto is just a feature used to defame the profession in our nation. This has been the fact of down looks from everyone for the teachers. If you happen to read these article ones, just ask yourself a question, “What is your feeling about teachers?” There would be an endless description and in it, there would be 70% of surprises that have kept the profession de-motivated.  Similarly I can remember those days of mine as a student, who would think a job as a teacher is a package of boredom for the young generations. I would laugh on myself when I thought to aim my ambition as a teacher. That was blow of disaster in terms of comedy. That’s how feelings of young one remains the same for the adults consider the same thing for the e teachers in the society. As always considered, family members educate the young one and that is how the concept or the standard of teacher is being educated to their sons and daughters. But is this the right thing? Did I and you think right about it? An enormous thoughts in the form of regrets rush down my nerves for I in my times of adulthood failed to recognize the heart meaning of the profession. It was during my high school grade that I took everything for granted for the common exam. To pick a situation in my life, my friends would drop their heads down on the table and say, “Why should I study for getting admission in College of Education? It is as easy as eating a cup of cake. It’s like pinning down a thump pin on the soft cotton.” That meant the same way to me but reality thrashed every one of us when seeking an admission even in the college of Education was a great pressure. With the grace of God, I got placed luckily in the college. I was pinned with silence as I couldn’t think of those who told the admission to be sure landed nowhere. All this facts were kind of real thing that taught me about how I shall be considered after taking the profession. Now I stand defined and trained to value the profession. I wish everyone to be the same in considering the profession a valuable one. But still a thing remains untouched, why it happened in this way?
The sole responsibilities appear to be rested on the teachers lap but I, as a writer, feels it wrong. The old proverb may recapitulate the best thing ever I wanted to write about. It says, “United we stay, divided we fall” and that would make a great sense to the readers in a small way. Well! I cannot guarantee that all the teachers work with heart in their job but they do try their best with what they are taught in the colleges and institutions. And maybe the country of ours seems to be small in size and population but at the same time, a small number of teachers may be not enough to implement the best values and thoughts in the young generations of our nation. That is when I feel the importance of not only teachers in our nation but also the sense of unity from all the people as an individual, as a parent, as a relative, as a family and as a citizens of the peaceful nation.
It is wrong to fully hand over the responsibility of taking care of our children to the teachers. In one way, rest of us do have right to depend on teachers but is school enough for the students to learn knowledge and values in a regular basis? Every individual has the right to attempt in answering this question. For today, I take my chance to say that what a student learns in a classroom is just like a content that would introduce the topics to the learners. But the thorough session on the topics would be their real life experiences putting into action when they are with their peers, families, parents, society and community as whole. That is when parents and community as a whole have to take the initiative in making the young ones realize the importance of their existence. They shouldn’t be robot. They are insane and we are too.
The resolution may seem important for the all members in a society to react upon it, still then we stay lost and hopeful with the hope that teachers can do their part. Yes, of course teachers agree but how far should the teacher run behind them. In a classroom, a teacher has to pay attention and bind the total of mostly thirty plus students whereas a single parent may have just one or two. A teacher has to take care of students with rules and laws implemented. In the modern era, it is true to have the feeling that teachers are so rude and cruel. A teacher always hope for a better cultivation of values and ethics in them but their ill behaviour in some students results the teacher to cross check the discipline rules. That is when the description of teacher is made. The part when new knowledge implemented is never described but it is only when a teacher has do something insane then media highlights the issue. Now if we bring the idea down where a single family take the initiative in taking care of their single child with values and ethics, should there be discipline acts regulated in schools?  Would there be the problems as of the problems we see at this period of time? In this case, involvement of all members sees a good future in the coming days. If the period remains untouched with the same practise then we shall finish our future dreaming of a better future which would be gone by then. But this period isn’t gone for us to change what is wrong. We have time to react as a teacher, as a family, as a parent and as a whole we stay as a united community in a nation.
A common thing that drives our parents crazy is what they desire for their child. They dream big. They expect better but they fail to look into the strategies of how they will help their child drive what they dream. I should mention that the world is taking the phase of materialistic pattern of life. To be particular, all of us think that we can achieve everything with money. A dream of child from an age of seven till the graduating year, their concern shall be on how much salary they would get? In this case, where is educational concept? Where is our mind directed? There are no thoughts on learning a value rather the learner develops egoism to achieve more than what is needed. That is how parents play an influence on the life of their child. It would be a hopeless aim for the educationist to craft another thing which is already crafted. There would be no improvement in their thoughts and we as an educationist fail to achieve the education goals. If we recap the speech of His Majesty, in most of his speeches he concerns on the improvement of one’s mind not on acquiring a position in a class or in a nation.  Imagine a graduate with a very immoral behaviour in a government service. Is he/she perfect to be defined as an educated adult? He may earn an amount less salary but his adjustment in the society seems to be very poor and not adjustable. And that is not education in Bhutan is dreaming to make. And this is where all should stand as one and that is where I said united we stay and divided we fall. If we go on preparing the youth with thoughtless mind, everything in our nation takes the risk of corrupted government. It would ensure no sustainability in driving along everyone as a Bhutanese.
Knowing all the simple facts, I feel the importance of all community members to be engaged as one in working on it. A nation should drive with the positive culture, a positive strategy and positive thoughts.  For that a teacher comes as a regulator and every individual as a supporter and a motivator. The future would guarantee us with peace and prosperity.
